Nightlife In St. Maarten

If you want to stroke the hand of Lady Luck, then head for the south side of the island. Gambling is legal only on the Dutch side with 9 casinos.

Also at the Maho, is The Gizmo Overlounge a hip night club with house music and a trendy setting.

The Studio 7 discoteque at Grand Casino in Mullet Bay is a popular place to hang out with locals and dance to the latest hits. It starts late, so head to the infamous Cheri’s Bar first, only a five-minute walk from the club, for a few drinks and friendly conversation. Other hotspots are the News Music Cafe, Greenhouse, Indiana Beach and Amnesia.

The sidesplitting Comedy Club has stand-up comedians everyday except Monday nights.

Most of the comedians are from HBO or Carsons, and they bring in large crowds. Most resorts have live performances, such as limbo dancing, fire-eating entertainers and live music, for guests and visitors.

In Philipsburg, The News is favored for dancing and provides live concerts every other night. Another somewhat offbeat option is the AXUM Jazz Cafe, which offers an eclectic selection of entertainment, such as live jazz and reggae music, dramatic presentations and poetry readings. The cafe also serves as a gallery for the Caribbean’s finest contemporary artists to display their works of art.

Sun Star Cruises, a party and dinner cruise boat, offers Sunset Dinner Cruises, Moonlight Party Cruises and Special Custom Charters. The four-hour sunset dinner cruise includes two glasses of wine or champagne, dinner buffet and entertainment. On the other hand, the Moonlight party features two glasses of wine or rum punch, snacks, entertainment and a nightly dancing contest. Special custom charters are catered for weddings, anniversaries and special events.
