About St. Kitts & Nevis

St. Kitts has a population of 35,340 people and an area of 68 square miles. Nevis, with 9,000 residents, covers an area of 36 square miles. St. Kitts & Nevis are located in the northern part of the Leeward Islands in the eastern Caribbean, 19 degrees north of the equator, separated by a channel two miles wide.  St. Kitts and Nevis are  popular islands for a Caribbean wedding.

CURRENCY – The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, which is fixed to the US dollar. US currency, travelers’ checks and major credit cards are welcome everywhere.

ELECTRICITY – 230 volts, 60 cycles. Most hotels have 110 volts. Converters are available, but you may want to pack your own adapter just in case.

TIME – St. Kitts & Nevis are on Atlantic Standard Time, one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time and the same as Eastern Daylight Time. This means that the islands are 1 hour ahead of New York and Montreal, 5 hours behind Frankfurt and Paris, 13 hours behind Tokyo, and 14 hours behind Sydney.

WHAT TO WEAR – The yearly average temperature is 79 degrees; annual rainfall averages 55 inches; humidity is low, and constant northeast trade winds keep the islands cool. Beach attire is appropriate for the beach but not the town, shops or restaurants. Please refrain from short shorts, bikinis and bare chests in these places. Informal, but conservative, clothing is the standard.
