St. Barts Weddings

The official name of the island is the Territorial Collectivity of Saint Barthelemy, often abbreviated to St. Barts. It is one of four territories that comprise the French West Indies, along with Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint Martin. St. Barts lies about 22 miles southeast of Saint Martin and north of St. Kitts.

St. Barts is a volcanic island fully encircled by shallow reefs and is the only Caribbean island which was a Swedish colony for any length of time. Couples looking for a unique island on which to hold their Caribbean wedding will find exactly that in St. Barts. The language, cuisine and culture are distinctly French and it is known for attracting the rich and famous, especially during the winter holiday season.

When planning your Caribbean wedding or honeymoon, bear in mind that St. Barts has little to offer in terms of nightclubs and discos. Rather, the most popular nighttime experience remains comfortable and leisurely dining at one of the more than 70 restaurants, many of the finest of which are located in the more than 25 hotels. Most hotels are boutiques, with 15 or fewer rooms. French cuisine, West Indian cuisine, Creole cuisine, Italian cuisine and Asian cuisine are common in St. Barts.

International investment and the wealth generated by wealthy tourists create the high standard of living on the island. It is known for its beaches, gourmet dining and high-end fashion designers. St. Barts is unusual in the Caribbean in that a large majority of its residents are of European descent. A St. Barts wedding is truly unique.

The height of tourism is New Year’s Eve, with celebrities and the wealthy converging on the island in yachts of up to 550 feet in length for the occasion. Another popular event is the St. Barts Music Festival, a major international performing arts event held every year for about two weeks. Performances include ballet, orchestra, chamber music, opera and jazz. Make your St. Barts wedding memorable by picking a wedding date close to either of these special times of year.
