Legal requirements for getting married in Jamaica

Your wedding in Jamaica is sure to be a smashing success thanks to all the outstanding hotels, resorts and restaurants only too eager to host the event. To find just the right location, research your options. Then factor in your budget and make a choice, but no matter how simple or extravagant the affair, it’s certain to be beautiful.

Happily, in Jamaica, it is as easy to get married as it is to find just the right wedding venue. In fact, it only takes a day to get the marriage license providing the prior application has been made.

Obtaining that license will require that the couple present certified copies of their birth certificates with their father’s name.

Additionally, if either party was previously married, proof of divorce or the death certificate of a deceased spouse must be presented.

No blood tests are required and expect to pay around US$60.00 - US$65.00 for the license.

There are non-denominational Marriage Officers who can officiate either at their offices, in their homes or at a place chosen by the couple, and are able to provide witnesses. Marriage Officers charge anywhere from US$50.00 – US$250.00.
