Legal requirements for getting married in Dominica

Plan your wedding in advance by taking advantage of the special event coordinators at the larger resorts. But if something impromptu is what you prefer, Dominica is the ideal place to do it – on the beach as the sun dips below the horizon.

One member of the couple is required to be in Dominica for a minimum of two days prior to filing an application for a marriage license.  Application forms are obtainable from the Ministry of Community Development.

To apply for a special non-resident marriage license, couples must present birth certificates and proof of citizenship. Additionally, if applicable, proof of a legal divorce decree or the death certificate of a deceased spouse must be presented.

No blood tests are required and the cost of the marriage license is approximately US$114.

There is also a lawyer’s fee of US $190.00 for statuary declaration on marital status. Marriages at the Registrar’s Office cost US $10.00, and those held elsewhere cost US $35.00 plus the cost of transportation.
