Legal requirements for getting married in Anguilla

The perfect wedding calls for a perfect location and this island getaway offers a idyllic setting.

From a lovely traditional wedding in one of the island's charming churches to an informal wedding on the beach as waves gently lap the shoreline-everything can be arranged to meet any couple's personal tastes.

For newlyweds, the beauty of Anguilla is the flexibility of the options. Get married on the island, or simply slip away for a secluded island honeymoon. The hotels offer packages that make both alternatives infinitely inviting.

For those interested in getting married on Anguilla, both parties must present proof of citizenship in a resident country. Such proof includes a valid passport, birth certificate or driver's license with photo.

If either party has been divorced or widowed, the divorce decree or death certificate of the deceased spouse must be presented. Documents must be written in English and translated into English and notarized.

The special license takes approximately two working days to process.

Two witnesses are required to attend the marriage ceremony. For further information or to apply for a marriage license, contact The Registrar, Judicial Department, The Valley, Anguilla, Tel (264) 496-2377/264-497-3347

For couples seeking a Catholic ceremony, special requirements apply.
