Wedding Planning Advice

When planning a Caribbean Wedding you have a lot of choices to make. One of the most important decisions is what are the legal requirements and how do they affect you when you are back in the country where you reside. For this reason, we recommend that brides and grooms consider a small civil service ceremony at home prior to traveling to your destination. Once you arrive, you can be married again with the beautiful gown and all the trimmings. It's double the pleasure and it simplifies things.

We talk to brides all the time and it is amazing how different weddings are planned. Some want it as simple as a wedding for two on a beach with an extended stay. No friends or family. Some plan to invite 150 guests and hope that most of them come. The key to planning your perfect wedding is to start early. There are big advantages:

  1. You lock in the resort and the resort price for up to one year in advance. This is important because costs always go up and rarely go down.

  2. You can provide a save-the-date card to your guest list and they can plan in advance to attend this special occasion. Most guests arrive the night before and stay a minimum of 3 nights.

  3. Know what to ask for. Depending on your budget you should consider a causal buffet dinner the night before. If your budget doesn't permit this, then consider asking your hotel to work with you on a "Welcome Reception". Most hotels offer this service to hotel guests in some form such as a "General Manager's Cocktail Party" and a wedding party certainly deserves something similar.

  4. Depending on the island and the resort you choose there are many options for your honeymoon. You can stay at the resort where you marry or you can "island hop". For instance if you are planning a ten-day stay, stay the first three at the hotel where you wed. Then choose a second hotel or villa for the remainder of your stay. The Caribbean offers so many choices and opportunities to do this and ideally you would choose one that is a short drive away.

  5. If you are a super romantic, you will want to check out local area restaurants. There are so many romantic places in the Caribbean that you will want to experience the "local side" too. Plus, you will find most of the islanders love romance and when they find out you are on your honeymoon you will get special attention. It's a "See it like a native" approach that will be very memorable. Check out some of our favorite spots to visit in the Caribbean!
