About Bonaire

Bonaire is the second largest of the five islands that make up the Netherlands Antilles. Located 50 miles north of Venezuela and 86 miles east of Aruba. Bonaire encompasses 112 square miles.  Bonaire is located outside of the hurricane belt.

ACCOMMODATIONS – Most accomodations on the island  are either small hotels or apartments that are clean, comfortable and very affordable. 

CALLING BONAIRE – The country code for the Netherlands Antilles is 599. Bonaire’s area code is 7.

COMMUNICATIONS – From Bonaire, calling the U.S. is easy. United States direct dialing service is available at most places. Where it’s not, the operator can connect guests to a U.S. operator through which to reach the desired party. Meanwhile, local numbers can be reached by dialing the last 4 digits.

CREDIT CARDS – Major credit cards are welcome everywhere.

CURRENCY – U.S. currency and travelers checks are welcome throughout the island. The local currency in the NA Florin or Guilder.

DRINKING WATER – Sea water is distilled and purified to become one of the purest drinking waters in the world. Imported water is also available.

ELECTRICITY – The current is 127 or 220 volts, 50 HZ AC. Visitors wishing to use personal electronics are advised to bring a plug adapter and transformer.

TIME – Bonaire is on Atlantic Standard Time, which is one hour later than Eastern Standard Time.

WHAT TO WEAR – Casual attire is fine, and be sure to pack your wet suit and goggles. Beach wear is not allowed downtown.
